Queens 75-3826; July 21, 2006 Galleries

Queens 75-3826 (07/21/06) : On Friday, July 21, 2006, severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rains continued to move into the NYC area. At approximately 0957 hours, the Queens Fire Communications Office received a phone alarm for a house fire at 53-43 214 Street. Box 3826 was transmitted, sending Engines 301, 303, Ladder 160 and Battalion 53 on their way. Because of the units in that area being unavailable to respond due to other boxes out in the area, Engine 303 was coming from a distance and normally isn't assigned till the 4th alarm. Battalion 53 arrived within minutes and transmitted the 10-75 for a working fire in a 1 1/2 story occupied private dwelling. At this same time, Engine 315 transmitted a 10-75 not far from this job further depleting available units in the area. Battalion 53 knowing his units would be coming from a distance, conducted a quick search. For close to 8 minutes after the arrival of the battalion, Engine 306 who became available after the 10-75 arrived first due. Fire was through the roof and out the windows in the rear. It was suspected that the fire was starting by a lightning strike.
