Manhattan 44-571 (11/02/05) : On November 2, 2005, a phone alarm was received by Manhattan Fire Alarm Dispatchers reporting smoke from the rear of a building on West 15 St. off of 9 Avenue. Box 571 was transmitted. Engine 3 and Ladder 12 arrived first due and transmitted the 10-75 for a fire in a commercial building. The fire was located on the fourth floor of an indoor auto parking garage. Numerous cars were on fire which soon spread to the structure. Obviously, this building was not sprinklered. After an aggressive attempt to make a push using a 2 1/2" handline by the members of Engine 3, they were drawn back by a very high heat condition. Eventually, several tower ladders were used to bring the fire under control.
